President and Chief Executive Officer
Richard Balot has served as the President and Chief Executive Officer since founding ABC Phones of North Carolina, Inc. (DBA - A Wireless) in October of 1996 as a freshman in college. He has grown the company from one location to nearly 250 locations and over $300M in revenue. As one of only six National Premium Retailers for Verizon Wireless, Rich has made a name for both himself and the company as leaders in the industry. He also is an active partner in ABC Family, LLC which owns and manages approximately 100 rental properties.
Rich was born with entrepreneurism in his blood and started his first company at the age of 14; Balot’s DJs. By the time Rich was sixteen he had 7 Disc Jockeys working for him and was averaging nearly 13 parties per weekend as the largest DJ Entertainment company in Eastern North Carolina, until he sold his business at the age of 26.
Rich is an active member in Young Presidents Organization (YPO) and on the local council board of the Boy Scouts. Rich volunteers with numerous local charities, participating with his family.
Rich holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from East Carolina University.
Along with his brother Rich and father Ed, Dave is one of the three founding partners of ABC Phones of North Carolina, Inc. (DBA – A Wireless). Currently a minority shareholder, Dave works with his brother Rich discussing and developing ways to improve and grow this once small company that started with one store and three employees, which has grown to what it is today, a large organization of over 250 locations and about 1,400 employees.Prior to A Wireless, Dave’s work career began at the age of 13 as a short order cook on the boardwalk of Seaside Heights, NJ. Up to and ultimately while fulfilling a college degree, Dave has been employed as a landscaper, ride supervisor at a large theme park, a warehouse distribution manager, outbound computer software sales manager, car salesman, retail sales manager and even a DJ for his brother Rich’s Mobile DJ business!
For the past 20 years, Dave has been working in the medical field. In 2001, Dave formed DB Medical Consulting, Inc. which concentrates on the non-medical operations of doctors’ offices, both large and small. Among other achievements, Dave (through DB Medical Consulting, Inc,) has helped grow a small doctor’s office of what was once 7 employees into a large, multi-disciplinary group practice that had over 50 locations, 750 employees and is accredited by the Joint Commission.
Dave currently resides in Sarasota, FL with his wife Michelle and their 4 beautiful children. Aside from the occasional fishing trip with his brother Rich or close childhood friends, Dave spends most of his non-working time playing “co-activity director” for his 4 children.
Dave holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from East Carolina University.
Chief Financial Officer
Charles Kralick has served as the Chief Financial Officer since November of 2011. Charles is responsible for our internal and external financial reporting, budgeting and financial relationships in our business communities. Charles is a seasoned financial executive, having served as CFO for number of family-owned or closely-held multi-generational companies, across multiple sectors, including, convenience stores, fuel distribution, fund administration, software development, printing, and real estate.
Prior to joining A Wireless, Charles was a partner in Tatum and work independently in his own business, KralickCFO. Charles established BluePlans (three to five-year business plans), evaluated and realigned businesses along significant product lines, helped acquire (and sell) businesses, created product costing models, strengthened banking relationships, implemented strategic management agendas, mentored management development, modernized accounting departments, implemented new accounting systems, and hired accounting (and other management) personnel.
Before joining Tatum, Charles started his career with 13 years in the public accounting firm currently known as Deloitte & Touche, followed by 13 years of senior financial management roles in two publically traded and one private consumer products business.
Charles is a member of the North Carolina Association of CPAs, is an Eagle Scout, and is active in church, scouting, and community organizations in Eastern North Carolina.
Charles holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from New York University.
John Crolle has served as the General Counsel of A Wireless since July of 2011. John handles the drafting, review and negotiation of all leases, supplier, vendor and insurance contracts, contracts with Verizon Wireless, and due diligence on mergers and acquisitions. John also manages outside counsel, provides counsel regarding employment and litigation matters, manages A Wireless’ Asset Protection department, oversees A Wireless’ insurance and risk management, provides counsel with respect to company policies, procedures, business issues and is actively involved in business discussions and strategy development for A Wireless.
Prior to joining A Wireless, John had a general business practice with Ward and Smith, P.A. where he gained significant experience in entity structure and formation, corporate governance, complex contract drafting and negotiation, start-up businesses, capital raises, mergers and acquisitions, and construction contracts.
Before joining Ward and Smith John served as a legal clerk for Judge Barbara Jackson at the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
John received his Juris Doctorate, Cum Laude, from Georgia State University College of Law and his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Cornell University.
John also served in the United States Marine Corps infantry and as a police officer in Metro-Atlanta prior to attending law school.
National Sales Leader
Steve McElhanon has served as the Vice President of A Wireless since January of 2012. Steve develops, directs, and leads our sales strategy for all locations. As a Senior Executive specializing in Sales, Operations, and Business Services, Steve is known for building high-performing teams, developing future leaders, creating organizational structure, and promoting customer-centric cultures that drive sales and increase profits.
Prior to joining A Wireless, Steve served as the Chief Executive Officer of Westrock Coffee Holdings LLC where he played a major role in the startup of a holding company with three subsidiaries located in Rwanda and the United States. Steve directed product development, sales strategy, sales, sales support, and account management for branded and private-label coffee products.
Prior to that, Steve spent over 11 years at Alltel, ultimately reaching the position of Area President. At Alltel, Steve, held full P&L responsibility for their #1 market and was responsible for managing 6 vice presidents of retail services and 1,400 employees. Steve oversaw 166 company-owned retail locations and 689 agent locations producing $1.5 billion in annual revenues.
